We’ve explored the dining landscapes at Disney’s Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Now, let’s visit the best Disney World Animal Kingdom restaurants.

Overall, the restaurants at Disney’s Animal Kingdom are exceptional. Quick service dining offers more creative menus, in general, than the other parks. The table service and character dining locations are few, but often recommended.

This simple guide to Disney World Animal Kingdom Restaurants will briefly discuss all of dining options available for meals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Like all of my food guides, this primer is all you need if you’re short on planning time or you can use it as a starting point by gaining an understanding of the dining options available at Animal Kingdom before digging in more in-depth reviews.

Quick Service Dining at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom offers the best quick service variety of the Disney parks. Quick service locations do not offer reservations so they are great for those who prefer more relaxed daily touring plans.

Most quick service restaurants offer mobile ordering using the My Disney Experience app. USE THIS! Mobile Ordering allows you to bypass the ordering line and will save you so much time.

Disney World Animal Kingdom Harambe Market

Satu’li Canteen in Pandora: The World of Avatar has an excellent menu of made-to-order bowls with a variety of bases including rice and hash, sauces, and protein. The kids’ menu here is not your standard burgers and chicken nuggets, but the steamed cheeseburger pods and quesadillas are acceptable to many littles’ taste buds!

Harambe Market in Africa offers gyros and rice bowls. While we don’t always eat a meal here, we always stop for a drink because Bibo, my son’s favorite Club Cool drink, is offered as a fountain beverage here. If you’re missing your Epcot Club Cool fix, stop at Harambe Market! Note that Harambe Market closes earlier than most quick service restaurants so you may not be able to count on it for dinner.

Flame Tree Barbecue on Discovery Island is a popular favorite. Ribs, pulled pork and chicken are on the menu.

Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes offers Asian cuisine including egg rolls, tikka masala, and sesame chicken. This is also your sole quick service option for breakfast. Local Foods Cafe has an impressive breakfast menu of potato bowls, egg sandwiches, English muffins, and more.

Restaurantosaurus is the basic burger joint and Pizzafari has basic pasta and pizza, but both have extensive indoor dining rooms.

Animal Kingdom certainly has plenty of great quick service meal options. The only downside is that most only have outdoor seating, which can be unappealing on a hot or rainy day. Unfortunately, the restaurants with the most indoor seating also have the most unimaginative food: Restaurantosaurus and Pizzafari. You can also try Satu’li Canteen which is split half indoors and half under cover outside.

Additionally, the kiosks around Discovery Island, Asia, and Africa have excellent options as well, though they lack the seating options of full quick service restaurants and many are only open seasonally. Don’t shy away from locations like The Smiling Crocodile and Terra Treats.

Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Africa is the place to get your Dole Whip in Animal Kingdom and they offer it with rum.

If you don’t have a reservation or want a full sit-down dinner, step into the Nomad Lounge attached to Tiffins. This lounge offers similar cuisine as small plates with cocktails.

The Starbucks location in Animal Kingdom is Creature Comforts on Discovery Island near the bridge to Africa.

Character Dining

Tusker House Restaurant offers a buffet with American and African cuisine. Meet Donald Duck and friends in safari attire. Tusker House is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

With a nearly identical character line-up to the ultra-popular Chef Mickey’s, it’s a great choice if reservations for Mickey’s are difficult to find.

Table Service Restaurants

Rainforest Cafe has a jungle dining room. This chain restaurant has locations around the country.

Tiffins Restaurant is Animal Kingdom’s fine/signature dining restaurant serving African, Asian, and Latin Cuisine.

Yak & Yeti Restaurant serves Asian and Chinese cuisine. While Yak & Yeti and its quick service counterpart, the Local Foods Cafe, share similar names and even the same building, note that they are separate restaurants.

Animal Kingdom also offers a few dinner-only table service options at quick service restaurants.

Pizzafari Family Style Dining offers family-style service of pizza and pasta at dinnertime.

Restaurantosaurus Burgers and Sundaes is a dinner-only offering of “gourmet” burgers, sandwiches, and make-your-own sundaes.

Notable Dining at Nearby Hotels

While there are great dining options at the resorts near Magic Kingdom and several options at the hotels between Epcot and Hollywood Studios, no hotels are connected to Animal Kingdom by walking path, boat, or any transportation besides buses.

However, Animal Kingdom Lodge is the closest resort to the park and will have the shortest bus ride. And, while hotels adjacent to Animal Kingdom lack in number, the park’s single namesake resort has top-notch restaurants at all service and price points.

Animal Kingdom Lodge

  • Jiko – The Cooking Place – fine/signature dining of African cuisine
  • Boma – Flavors of Africa – African/American buffet
  • Sanaa – African/Indian cuisine with savanna views. With a wall of windows looking out onto the savanna, Sanaa is a great lunch choice for animal-watching. Keep an eye on Orlando sunset times if you’re planning dinner reservations and still want to be able to see the animals.
  • The Mara – Quick service dining with a large menu including sandwich, burger, and chicken staples with additional African-inspired choices. The same famed Zebra Domes chocolate cream mousse desserts that are served at Boma’s buffet are available in the refrigerator case!
